Mohegan Sun Pocono Takes Sports Betting Beyond Brick-and-Mortar to Online

Mohegan Sun Pocono is about to substantially increase its revenue rake from sports betting.

The casino has launched online sports betting across Pennsylvania, accessible on mobile apps found at and on its website

In September, Mohegan soft-launched its Unibet retail sportsbook at the Wilkes-Barre-based destination. More than $2 million was wagered in sports bets at the venue owned by the Mohegan Tribe in October, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The sportsbook retained $305,697 in sports wagering revenue that month after paying out winners.

Mohegan Sun Pocono’s expansion into the digital market stands to up-level its audience significantly.

To put things into perspective, across Pennsylvania, mobile sports betting  accounted for more than 82% of all wagers placed in October. In total, Pennsylvania sportsbooks (retail and mobile combined) handled $241.2 million in bets in October, and revenue reached $19.1 million.

A total of 7 online sports wagering sites and 12 retail sportsbooks exist in the state, according to Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board spokesman Doug Harbach. Online casino games are available at five sites in Pennsylvania — now including Mohegan Sun Pocono

Mohegan Sun Pocono’s retail and online sportsbooks were created through a partnership with Kindred Group, a popular European brand expanding its footprint in the United States. This marks Kindred Group’s second online sportsbook in the U.S.; its first Unibet Sportsbook entered the New Jersey market.

“After a successful launch of our betting lounge, Unibet Sportsbook at Mohegan Sun Pocono, we are thrilled to take the partnership with Mohegan Sun online and bring the Pennsylvanian guests a state-of-the-art online gambling experience, including the best online casino games and an impressive online sportsbook,” said Manuel Stan, Senior Vice President of Kindred US.

Aviram Alroy, Vice President of Interactive Gaming at Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, called the sportsbook lounge at Mohegan Sun Pocono a “highly engaging and joyful experience. We’re thrilled to introduce to our customers an opportunity to place bets and game online within the state borders,” Alroy said.

When Pennsylvania legalized sports betting in 2017 (and the law became active upon the federal repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, or PASPA, in May 2018), lawmakers also approved state-licensed online betting. That means customers can place wagers from inside state lines, though geolocation technology may prohibit bets placed near any state borders. To place mobile bets via Unibet in Pennsylvania, users must first download the GeoGuard Location Validator app and turn location services on. The GeoGuard Location Validator app must remain open for the entirety of the time the player uses Unibet.
