The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) has issued its approval to the Oneida Indian Nation to offer sports betting at its three Tribal gaming venues, once New York State issues its final regulations — anticipated this year.
The Tribe teamed up with Scientific Games Corporation to submit its proposal to the NIGC. Using Scientific Games’ OpenSports technology, the Tribe will introduce sportsbooks at its flagship Turning Stone Resort Casino, as well as at its Yellow Brick Road and Point Place casinos in central New York State.
“We are proud that we will be among the first Indian Nations in the country to offer sports betting, and we appreciate NIGC’s favorable determination of our partnership with Scientific Games,” said Ray Halbritter, CEO of Oneida Nation Enterprises, adding “We look forward to offering sports betting in the near future …”
Jordan Levin, group chief executive of SG Digital, commented: “We’re making great strides in preparing for the New York market to go live with sports betting, and we’re honored to work with the Oneida Indian Nation to activate our proven sports betting solution. Being part of the first sports betting partnership to receive a favorable NIGC determination is a significant milestone that will set both Scientific Games and Oneida up for ongoing success. We look forward to implementing our OpenSports solution for Oneida as we gear up for expansion into New York.”
In addition to Scientific Games, the Tribe has teamed up with Caesers Entertainment for branding and licensing to open the “The Lounge with Caesars Sports” at its three properties.
According to an analysis from the American Gaming Association, New York will likely be among the top three states for sports betting revenue once it enters the market.
